Creating Good Website Content

Posted on 21st April 2023

Creating good website content is often seen as a subject with great difficulty and mystique but it does not have to be that way. We have looked at a few the key elements that will help you see how to go about good content creation.

What is good website content?

Good website content can take many forms and can include articles, blogs, whitepapers, newsletters, images, case studies, videos along with many more formats.

What matters is whether your target audience read the content and find it valuable. There is no point in writing content that nobody reads or values.

Do you know what your existing and potential customers are interested in knowing about? What questions have your existing customers asked about and could you develop that information in content on your website.

Have a look at you competitors’ website and consider what content they have developed and get ideas for your own content creation.

In terms of how long content should be will depend on the nature of what you are writing about. If it is a blog, then approximately 500 to 600 words will work well. Alternatively, if you are writing an in-depth technical article, it can be longer.

if it is a video, then it is advisable to keep a landing page video to 30 to 60 seconds and a video inside the site to between 1 and 2 minutes.

Add regular and relevant content

Once you start adding content, it is important to keep going and add content on a regular basis. This will start to help with the way Google sees your website. Google likes websites that post real content on a regular basis. Over time it will help your site ranking which in turn helps to attract visitors.

Good website content does not have to be technical

There is a place for technical content and this content should be well written so that your audience understands it. This content should be written in a consistent and clear style which conveys your brand identity.

Non-technical content must also be written in a consistent and clear style and there are many good ways to achieve this.

Consider telling stories about your products or related human stories. They are a very good way to communicate who you are as a business. If possible, use words and images to help to get an emotional reaction from the content.

Breaking news which impacts on your business and your target audience is another great way to create good content.

It is sometimes a good idea to quote third party sources of data when writing content. It can add authority to your content. If you do add a reference to a third party, make sure you make clear your source and add a link to the source website.

Keywords are important in good website content

You have written an article which you think will appeal to your target audience but how do you know if they will find it. You may have some existing followers who will read it because they are following you.

So, what about your target audience that have not found you yet. They will probably search on Google and use keywords/ key phrases which you have not included in your content. This means that they will not find or read your content.

You need to find out what your target audience are searching on and build this into your content. You can find out some of this information by looking to see what worked previously or use an online tool. This is a stage where you could seek external advice on the best keywords and key phrases for your business.
